Bird flu test result to be announced soon

JAKARTA: The real cause of death of a 37-year-old woman,
suspected to have been infected by bird flu, will be revealed
later this week when the result of a World Health Organization
(WHO) laboratory test arrives here.

"We'll wait for the laboratory test result from Hong Kong,
possibly on Friday or Saturday. But to determine the type of
virus would take a longer time," Minister of Health Siti Fadilah
Supari said on Wednesday.

The woman, identified by her initials as RD, died last week
with symptoms similar to those infected by the avian influenza
virus. If confirmed, she would be the fourth human fatality in
the country after a man and his two daughters died in July. --
