Bintang opens new plant

JAKARTA (JP): Beer producer PT Multi Bintang Indonesia opened a new brewery plant yesterday in Sampangagung, Mojokerto, East Java.

Company president Herman Hofhuis said the new 34-hectare plant cost about Rp 150 billion (US$44.11 million).

The Sampangagung plant would be able to produce 80 million liters a year, equivalent to 240 million cans and bottles, he said.

"Most of the output will be sold domestically, and some will be exported to Japan, the United Kingdom and the Netherlands," he said.

Publicly listed Multi Bintang is 75.9 percent owned by Dutch company Heineken International Beheer BV.

The company now holds a license that allows it to produce 160 million liters of beer and stout a year, and has production permits for its factories in Tangerang, West Java, and the new Sampangagung plant. (das)
