Bimantara clarifies

We were disappointed to read your report titled Pertamina cancels Soeharto's oil and gas contracts in your July 3, 1999, edition. Paragraph eight states: "PT Genindo EPS, a subsidiary of the Bimantara Group controlled by Soeharto's son Bambang Trihatmodjo, was forced to transfer its stake in the Sembakung oil and gas field in East Kalimantan to PT Equatorial of Canada".

We feel there are several inaccuracies in the article and would like to place on the record the true facts.

Bimantara Citra, as a holding company, is involved in seven business sectors. Media & Broadcasting, Telecommunications, Infrastructure, Transportation & Automotive, Chemical, Hotels & Property and Financial Services & Investment in the Infrastructure division. Bimantara has stakes in six companies: PT Aqualindo Mitra Industri (waste management); PT Trans Javagas Pipeline (gas pipeline); PT Trihasra Bimanusa Tunggal (oil pipeline); PT Sankyu Indonesia International (general & heavy cargo and land transportation services); PT Citra Kartika Daya and PT Citra Kalimantan Energy (neither of these companies are currently active).

In addition to this, we would like to make clear that PT Genindo EPS is not related with Bimantara.
