BI to host numismatic show

JAKARTA: The Bank of Indonesia (BI) will hold a numismatic exhibition from Aug. 25 to Aug. 29, featuring the bank's collection of coins and banknotes from the ancient Javanese Majapahit kingdom.

The exhibition will be open for public view at the Wisma Candra building in the BI office complex on Jl. Kebon Sirih, Central Jakarta.

Other collections on display include coins and banknotes from ancient Islamic kingdoms, the Dutch colonial period, the Japanese occupation, the Independence era and modern times.

Chairman of the Indonesian Numismatic Association Singgih, former attorney general during the Soeharto era, said the bank's Artha Suaka Museum on Jl. Kebon Sirih had valuable collections that should be revealed to the public.

"We hope that with this exhibition, people will be encouraged to learn about numismatics," he said on Thursday. -- JP
