BI issues new Rp 1,000 note

JAKARTA (JP): Bank Indonesia will issue a new bank note in a
Rp 1,000 denomination as legal tender in the country beginning on
Wednesday.

The central bank said in a statement on Tuesday that the new
Rp 1,000 note carries the picture of national hero Kapitan
Pattimura on the front, and a picture of Maitara and Tidore
islands on the other side.

With the circulation of the new bank note, the old Rp 1,000
notes in circulation, issued in 1992, remain valid as legal
tender, the central bank added.(hen)
