Fire razes 40 houses at Kebon Jeruk
JAKARTA: Fire destroyed about 40 houses in Kedoya Utara, Pesing, Kebon Jeruk, West Jakarta, on Saturday.
Firefighter from the West Jakarta fire station Suhardi suspected that the fire might have been caused by a short circuit, adding that a further investigation into the cause of the fire was still under way.
Seventeen fire engines managed to extinguish the fire at 3:30 p.m., more than four hours after it had started. --Antara

Container truck hijacked in Cikupa
TANGERANG: Tangerang police managed to arrest one of four container truck hijackers who usually operate near Tanjung Priok port, North Jakarta, after a truck they had hijacked ran out of fuel in Cikupa late on Thursday.
The truck, driven by Harjanto, 25, and his helper, Nur Ichsan, 20, was hijacked near Tanjung Priok on Thursday evening.
The robbers, identified as Suhendra, 35, Khairudin, 35, Alex, 37, and Jack, 40, tied up the driver and his helper behind the seats, and then drove the truck toward Merak along the Jakarta- Merak tollway.
"But when the truck arrived in Cikupa at about 10 p.m., it ran out of fuel. Patrolling police officers who became suspicious finally arrested Suhendar while the three other suspects fled after realizing the police were on hand," said Tangerang Police deputy chief GDE Sugianyar.
Suhendra and the truck, which was carrying 610 Bridgestone tires valued at around Rp 500 million that were destined for export to Singapore, were brought to Tangerang Police headquarters.--JP

Two drug traffickers arrested
JAKARTA: Police at Duren Sawit subdistrict, East Jakarta, arrested two men believed to be drug traffickers as part of the Operasi Ketupat Lilin security patrol during the small hours of Saturday.
The two were caught on the second floor of Perumnas Klender market building.
City police spokesman Sr. Comr. Prasetyo said that the police found 13 grams of putaw (low-grade heroin) and syringes on Handoko, 24, and Ferdi Nurdiansyah, 20.
The two were still being held at Duren Sawit police station for further investigation. -- Antara

JAKARTA: Starting Dec. 18, customers of PT Thames PAM Jaya (TPJ) will be able to pay their bills through Bank Central Asia ATMs.
The new service was confirmed following the signing of a cooperation between the two companies on Wednesday, according to Director of Communication and Public Relations of TPJ, Rhamses Simanjuntak.
TPJ, which has a 25-year contract with the city-owned water company PAM Jaya, serves 324,073 customers here.
It has three water treatment installations and produces 9,050 liters of water per second. --JP
