Beware of sexist supporters

SEMARANG: The unruly street rallies here are becoming a nightmare for women.

Several women said yesterday the nastiness of Golkar and United Development Party (PPP) supporters was unforgivable. They claimed the supporters often pinched women's cheeks, buttocks and other parts.

"One day I was watching a PPP convoy on the roadside. A man shook hands with me then pinched my cheeks and another man my buttocks," said college student Sri Pamurti.

Pamurti's friends and other locals have had similar experiences.

"I have been pinched three times by Golkar and PPP campaigners," said student Handayani.

The students said they preferred to stay in doors during street rallies. (har/pan)
