Beware of phone thief gangs

I went to Carrefour in Lebak Bulus recently to buy a cordless phone for my home.

There were two women, maybe in their thirties, also looking at cordless phones. Each time I would be looking at something, they would step in front of me and nudge me aside a bit. They made it seem as if they were interested in the same merchandise.

I just assumed it was a typical case of rude behavior and a general invasion of my personal space. It wasn't. These two women were working together as a team and managed to steal my cellular phone from my bag.

As all of these stories go, it happened so fast. Looking back it was so obvious what was happening but at the time I was clueless.

I reported the incident to the security and management at Carrefour. They were very kind and helpful, but there was little they could do to help after the fact.
