Better protection of Sulawesi forests

UJUNGPANDANG, South Sulawesi: Governor HZ Basri Palaguna pledged Saturday to intensify forestry control.

Palaguna said forestry development faced major challenges such as the increasing amount of unproductive land, fires and illegal logging by nomadic farmers.

"We need a wise policy to preserve the forests and protect the environment," he said as quoted by Antara.

The provincial government has allows a greater authority to regency administrations to manage forests in their areas, the governor said.(pan)
