Benz recalls A-Class
STUTTGART: Mercedes Benz has announced it will make a range of modifications to its new A-Class after the revolutionary car rolled over during testing by a Swedish car magazine.
Mercedes was thrown into a panic after news of the crash -- which happened as the car was participating in the extreme "Moose test" -- filtered around the world, threatening to seriously damage the car's reputation for safety.
The modifications include new suspension tuning, lowering the car's relatively high body, fitting bigger tires and installing the sophisticated ESP traction control system as standard.
The changes are expected to cost Mercedes about US$60 million a year and also involves the recall of about 2,600 cars already in the hands of European customers.
