Bengkulu library in sorry state

BENGKULU: The book collection of Bengkulu state library is in a sorry state as 2,768 of the total 46,499 books in the library are damaged, said Saipun Thoha, the head of Bengkulu state library. "After eight days of inspection, it was found that 5.95 percent of the collection or 2,768 books had been damaged," he said on Wednesday. The books either have pages missing or have been ripped said Saipun, blaming the visitors for the damage.

Most visitors to the library are students and civil servants. On average, the library is used by some 100 people a day. -- Antara
