Bengkulu fights prostitution

BENGKULU, Bengkulu: The South Bengkulu administration urged the public on Friday to evict any sex workers found in its neighborhood as the regency is bracing for an influx of prostitutes from the neighboring town of Bengkulu.

Deputy South Bengkulu regent Asmada Hamid said he had received reports about the arrival of prostitutes from Bengkulu in South Bengkulu's capital Manna, but he did not know how many.

The migration of sex workers to South Bengkulu has reportedly increased after the Bengkulu administration closed down the brothel located in Baai island last month.

Some 300 prostitutes were returned to their hometowns mainly in West Java, Lampung, and some regions in Sumatra.

Other sex workers have been found to be operating in the Bengkulu towns of Pagar Dewa and Selebar, local recreation centers and villages in North Bengkulu. --Antara
