Belo urges talks with Timor movement

MAUMERE, East Nusa Tenggara: Dili Bishop Carlos Felipe Ximenes Belo in a telephone interview from Dili, East Timor yesterday urged the goverment to hold talks with the newly founded East Timor People's Unity and Reconciliation Movement.

"Don't consider all organizations as anti-government. I hope the Indonesian government will take the time to hold a direct heart-to-heart dialog with the leaders of the movement," he added.

The movement was recently founded with former provincial legislative speaker Manuel V. Carrascalao as its chairman.

When contacted by phone on Friday, Carrascalao said the aim of the movement is to help resolve the East Timor issue which has been lingering on for over two-decades. (yac)
