Bekasi to relax school fees

BEKASI: The Bekasi City Council has agreed to reduce school enrollment fees for elementary and middle high school students.

Chairman of Commission D on development affairs, Zubaidi Asnan, said on Tuesday that the administration's new policy was part of the state's nine-year compulsory learning program.

"It would enable the community to gain easier access to education," he was quoted as saying by Tempointeraktif.com.

The administration will allocate Rp 250 million to cover the enrollment fees and another Rp 8.5 billion to subsidize the school facilities' fees, which are now no longer allowed to be charged to students.

Zubaidi added that the council had also agreed to the use of a total of Rp 42 billion to renovate school buildings.
