Bekasi on alert for attack

BEKASI: Amid heightened fears of terrorist attacks here following the Oct. 12 Kuta attacks on foreigners, Chief of Bekasi police Adj. Snr. Comr. Bachtiar Hasanuddin Tambunan called upon the public - both locals and expatriates - to be alert against anything appearing suspicious.

"People and the police must unite to prevent any crime," he said on Wednesday.

He underlined that the police is ready to protect expatriates who work here.

There are about 3,000 companies in the Bekasi municipality and regency while the number of expatriates who work in the area is around 1,000.

The police also increased security in the town, especially in the industrial zones, electricity power installations and public places, he said.

A local councillor, Syafrudin, called upon the people to assist the police in the efforts to prevent terrorism. --Antara
