Bekasi mayor fights against vice

BEKASI (JP): Bekasi Mayor Nonon Sonthanie is determined to fight prostitution, which is believed to be on the rise in the city.

He said there is no place for prostitutes to operate here. "Don't ever dream that there will be a redlight district here. We will take stern measures against those violating existing rules, including hookers on the streets," the mayor was quoted by Antara as saying.

The mayoralty's spokesman, Cecep Sutandi, said that the Bekasi mayoralty has issued a decree prohibiting the practice of prostitution and warned entertainment centers which violate existing regulations. (hhr)
