Beggars, homeless people arrested

BOGOR: The authorities netted about 40 beggars and homeless people in an operation in various parts of the town on Tuesday.

They were arrested because they were believed to have caused public unrest, spoiled the aesthetics of the area and disrupted traffic.

They were arrested in areas around Hotel Pangrango, Taman Kopi, Jl. Juanda, Jl. Pajajaran, Kujang Monument and Jambu Dua Mall.

Head of the team for the operation, Ade Sujana, said that they netted beggars for their own safety because they were often in danger as they asked for money from motorists at traffic lights.

Those arrested in the operation were sent to a shelter on Jl. Sukamulya in East Bogor. They will be provided with training before being sent to their hometowns, mostly in Bumi Ayu, Indramayu and Cianjur, West Java. -- JP
