Bees kill one kid, injure 2 others

BAJAWA, East Nusa Tenggara: A child died while two others are under intensive treatment after being stung by bees last Thursday in Bajawa, Flores.

Riki Dhori, 6, died two hours after being stung by a swarm of bees. Two of his friends, Oris Boko, 8, and Fulgensius Lado, 5, are being treated at the Bajawa Hospital, Pos Kupang reported Monday.

The parents of the deceased said they were building a hut on their plot at the time of the incident. The children had been asked to fetch water from a stream some 75 meters away.

Suddenly they heard screams and found the children surrounded by bees. The victims were then rushed to the hospital some 15 kilometers away.

A nurse said the surviving children may be released in a few days. Residents said they had never before heard of such an incident. (yac)
