Beddu to hear prosecutor's demand

JAKARTA: The former chief of State Logistics Agency (Bulog) Beddu Amang, who is on trial over his involvement in a Rp 95.4 billion land swap scandal, is scheduled to hear the prosecution summing up next Thursday.

The land swap deal was made in 1995 between Bulog and PT Goro Batara Sakti which belonged to former President Soeharto's youngest son, Hutomo "Tommy" Mandala Putra.

Under the deal, Bulog agreed to exchange its 50-hectare plot of land in the strategic area of Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta for a 70-hectare plot of land in Marunda, also in North Jakarta.

Chief prosecutor Fachmi accused Beddu of misusing his authority as Bulog's chief.

Beddu presided over the agency for three and a half years. -- JP
