Beddu named ASAE chief
JAKARTA (JP): Beddu Amang, the chairman of the National Logistics Agency, has been elected president of the Asian Society of Agricultural Economists (ASAE) for a three-year term.
Masykur Sulaiman, a spokesman for the agency, announced on Monday that Beddu had been unanimously elected at the second ASAE conference in Denpasar, Bali last week.
The conference, which discussed prospects for the Asian agriculture sector in the 21st century, was also attended by Indonesia's Coordinating Minister for Economy and Finance Saleh Afiff.
Masykur said that the Federation of Indonesian Agricultural Economists, which also held their ninth congress in Denpasar last week, also unanimously elected Beddu as its chairman for another three-year term, which will end in 1999. (hen)
