Beddu favored in takraw congress

JAKARTA (JP): Chairman of the State Logistics Agency, Beddu Amang, has emerged as the sole candidate for the top job in the Indonesian Sepak Takraw Association which will hold its national congress in Bogor, West Java this weekend.

Sepak takraw is a sport similar to volleyball but uses a rattan ball,

The association's official in charge of organizational affairs, Rainal Rais, said yesterday that Beddu is considered the right man to replace two-times chairman Marjoeni Warganagara because of his great concern about the sport. Beddu is a native South Sulawesi, the country's strongest sepak takraw powerhouse.

Rais also said that the congress would discuss possible cooperation between the association and the Armed Forces to further develop the sport throughout the country. "We plan to follow the footstep of Thailand, whose national players are mostly from the Armed Forces," Rais said. (amd)
