BCA profit more than triples

JAKARTA (JP): Publicly listed Bank Central Asia (BCA) reported nearly 400 percent increase in pretax profit in the first nine months of this year to Rp 1.03 trillion (about US$141 million).

The pretax profit for the January-September period represented an increase of 340 percent from the pretax profit of Rp 234.29 billion in December last year.

BCA said in a statement that as of September, its total assets rose slightly to Rp 96.86 trillion from Rp 96.45 trillion as of December last year. But it was Rp 6.06 trillion lower from the June level.

According to the bank, the drop was caused by the fall in third party funds of some Rp 5.84 trillion.

The bank said that its loan portfolio totaled Rp 5.94 trillion as of September, or an increase of Rp 1.84 trillion from December 1999. (hen)
