Batam launches online tax system

BATAM, Riau Islands: A modern, Internet-based tax system went
online at the Batam City Tax Office on Wednesday, making it the
first city outside Jakarta use such a service.

The high-end system, launched by Director General of Taxation
Hadi Purnomo in Batam on Wednesday, offers taxpayers services,
including e-registration, e-filing and e-payment.

"Our target is to implement this system in all of our offices
by the end of 2009 to prevent tax fraud by both taxpayers and tax
officials," Hadi Purnomo said. -- JP
