Bara Gomies wins in Golden Gloves

SEMARANG (JP): National boxer Bara Gomies, being groomed for
the Kuala Lumpur Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in September,
defeated Sugeng Riyadi of Central Java in an RSC (Referee
Stopping Contest) welterweight match of the Golden Gloves here
Monday.

Bara will meet Jaya Laguga of Southeast Sulawesi, who won on
points 23-15 over Yance Rumasep of Irian Jaya.

In the light middleweight semifinals, Syarief Hidayat, also a
member of the SEA Games team, dominated the bout to beat Benny
Elopere of Irian Jaya 9-5.

Syarief will meet Yulianto of Riau, who ousted Alde Alfon of
South Sulawesi 13-4.

The championships will take place until March 14 and are
featuring 11 weight classes. (har)
