Banyumas Council speaker questioned

PURWOKERTO, Central Java: Banyumas Council Speaker Tri Waluyo was questioned for two hours by police on Saturday over his alleged involvement in an attempt to foil a disputed land execution which eventually led to an attack on the execution officials.

"This case will be handled according to the law regardless of his position as district council spokesman," District Police chief Let. Col. Imam Basuki told reporters on Saturday.

Imam said he was still waiting for the results of the questioning in order to determine whether Tri would be considered as a suspect or not.

Meanwhile Tri's lawyer Budi Cahyono told reporters that his client arrived at the location of the land execution at Jl. A. Yani after hearing that there would be a large gathering at the location to abort the execution.

Budi said that Tri did not attack the execution officials but only asked for the execution to be postponed in order to avoid unrest.(08/45)
