Banten Council inducts members

BANDUNG: The newly established province of Banten will swear in on Friday its first council members.

The ceremony will be held in provincial capital Serang with 58 of the 75 council members being sworn in.

"According to information 17 others are still facing 'problems' so only 58 will be at the ceremony," Rudi Harsa, secretary of the West Java chapter of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI Perjuangan) said here on Thursday without elaborating.

Those who will be inducted on Friday comprise: 14 from PDI Perjuangan, 11 from Golkar, 10 from the United Development Party, five from the National Mandate Party, three from the National Awakening Party, two each from the Justice Party and the Crescent Star Party, and one each from PPI Masyumi, the People's Sovereignty Party and the Indonesian Democratic Party.

There will also be eight representatives from the Indonesian Military/National Police.(25)
