From:

Banning headscarves

From Republika

Reading a letter about female students being prohibited from wearing jilbab (headscarves) at SMU 4 state senior high school, in Bogor in Republika, I am tempted to write a suggestion.

The letter said that SMU 4 banned its female students from wearing scarves with white and gray uniform, but the white upper part and the gray lower part of the dress are sewn together, making the school uniform look like a robe or a long-dress.

My impression is that a long dress is more suitable to mothers, not students. I often wear such style of dress, but I put on a suit over my long-dress. SMU 4 does not prohibit its students from wearing jilbab, but is against the students' wearing of a long-dress in school.

I suggest that the model of the robe-like uniform should be modified as only 35 of the students of SMU 4 Bogor wear the long- dress model. They can copy the model of uniform used by students of Diniyah Putri, Thawalib Putri and Tarbiyah Islamic boarding school as well as state SMU in West Sumatra.
