'Banknotes' rain on Demak

DEMAK, Central Java: Dozens of men, women and children were out of breath and with aching feet after chasing what they thought were Rp 50,000 banknotes dropped from a helicopter passing overhead.

They were not that disappointed, however, when they found the papers blowing in the wind were National Mandate Party (PAN) stickers emblazoned with the picture of party chief Amien Rais.

"Not bad... It's a sticker of Indonesia's future president," said Sukirno, a pedicab driver who managed to grab a sticker.

The stickers were dropped from a helicopter carrying Amien Rais after he addressed a rally in the northern coastal town. (har)
