Bank looses billions through corruption

MATARAM, West Nusa Tenggara: The prosecutor's office here is investigating allegations of corruption reaching billions of rupiah at the local Bank Pembangunan Daerah, the regional development bank.

"At least 28 executives and employees at the bank will soon be questioned," provincial chief prosecutor Endang Supardi Nohasaputra, said Saturday as reported by Antara.

He said that those to be questioned were from the branches in Selong, Sumbawa and Bima.

One person from each branch could be a suspect, Endang said.

He said that the cases which were being investigated involve the alleged embezzlement of money from the three branches. Corruption at the Bima branch was believed to have reached Rp 158 million; at the Sumbawa branch that figure is Rp 353 million and at the Selong branch it is believed to have reached Rp 150 million.
