Bamboo bridge snaps, kills two
BANGLI, Bali: A 40-centimeter wide bamboo bridge stretching over a dry river at Siladan village in Bangli regency in Bali suddenly snapped, killing two people who were crossing it.
Villagers said the bridge collapsed at around 7 p.m. on Monday when the victims, identified as I Wayan Dira, 50, and I Wayan Rawi, 52, were crossing the bridge, plunging them to their deaths 25 meters down on the dry riverbed.
Local police said the rescue team had a lot of difficulty evacuating the victims due to the near perpendicular nature of the ravine.
When the rescue team arrived at the bottom, the victim's flash light was still on. Dira was found dead but Rawi, a father of three, died while being lifted out of the ravine.--Antara
