Balinese couple named professors

DENPASAR, Bali: Scholars Luh Ketut Suryani and Tjokorda Alit
Kamar Adnyana were inaugurated as professors at Udayana
University's School of Medicine here on Thursday.

The couple, both 56 and married for 28 years, are known for
their critical thinking on issues such as gender, democracy,
tourism and culture, aside from their main fields of study.

Attending the inauguration ceremony were local government
officials, nongovernmental organization activists and fellow
scientists.

Among the prominent methods of therapy developed by Suryani is
Balinese meditation, used to cure patients with mental
disturbances.

Adnyana was known as a supporter of the student movement.
