Bali Hindus observe Kuningan
DENPASAR: Hindus in Bali Saturday observed Kuningan, the last series of the Galungan holidays celebrating the victory of goodness (Dharma) over evil (adharma).
Hindus flocked to temples and merajan or private places of worship to pray and present offerings.
Galungan and Kuningan are celebrated every 210 days. This year, Kuningan coincided with another religious ritual called Tawur Panca Walikrama.
The Tawur Panca Walikrama colorful ceremony was at Luhur Uluwatu temple, about 30 kilometers south of Denpasar. It was struck and burnt down by lightning last October. The ceremony offered thanks for the successful renovation of Luhur Uluwatu temple.
The renovation project cost Rp 85 million (US$36,000) while the religious ceremony cost Rp 200 million. (pan)
