Bali has 35 new drug-addicts
DENPASAR, Bali: Research by a local hospital has revealed that 35 Balinese youths became addicted to drugs between January and August this year, Antara reported on Saturday.
Drug addiction is becoming a problem among youths in Bali, according to I. Gusti Putu Panteri, senior associate professor at the Psychiatric Laboratory of the School of Medicine at Udayana University.
He said that the youths used a wide range of drugs, including opium, hashish, sedatives and alcohol.
Panteri said that, compared with other provinces, the number of young drug addicts in Bali was still relatively low.
He said the problem of drug addiction among the Balinese youths dates back to 1970. (imn)
