Bajaj passenger's killer arrested
JAKARTA (JP): A man believed to have killed a passenger riding in a bajaj (three-wheeled motorized vehicle) was picked up by Central Jakarta police at his rented house on Jl. Kebon Jeruk, West Jakarta.
Jakarta police spokesman Lt. Col. Iman Haryatna said that the suspect, Eddison, 34, was arrested yesterday.
"An officer shot him in the leg when he tried to resist. He is now in Central Jakarta police detention," Iman told The Jakarta Post yesterday.
He said Eddison stabbed to death a bajaj passenger, Sarwo Edy, who was defending his female relative, Karmila, from being robbed in the bajaj while it was on Jl. Tanah Abang, in Central Jakarta, on May 31.
He said the suspect and a friend, who is still at large, then snatched a seven-gram gold necklace belonging to Karmila.
The men escaped, leaving Edy lying on the ground with severe stomach injuries.
Edy died immediately after the incident.
Iman said that police believe that Eddison was also involved in the murder of a man, identified as Peking, some time in October of last year. (jun)
