Baby to have surgery

JAKARTA: A three-month-old baby girl, Ani, is now in the care of a medical team of Cipto Mangunkusumo General Hospital, who are planning surgery to fix physical abnormalities.

Born to a poor fisherman's family in a remote village in Berau Regency, East Kalimantan, Ani has four legs, two sets of genitals, a cleft lip and is without a cavity for the mouth or anus.

Elang Papuansis, cofounder of the Health Legal Aid Institute, said the baby was flown to Jakarta on Monday by a Berau pediatrician, who has made a small opening in her lower back to allow her to discharge feces and urine. -- JP
