Baby drowned in flood

BALIKPAPAN, East Kalimantan: An 18-month old baby girl was drowned when floods swept across the Gunung Sari Ulu village in the northern part of the city.

The Antara news agency said that three houses were destroyed by the flash floods which came following incessant rains.

The baby, identified as Mentari, was playing in the garden at the time while her mother was in the kitchen, not aware that the water was coming until she heard the roar. By then it was too late and her daughter was swept away by the water, the Antara news agency reported. (emb)
