Babies need more water during the dry season

Dear Dr. Donya,

Thank you very much for your kind and expert advice. I request you kindly advise me on:

1. How much should the routine water intake be per day for my baby (in ml). And let me know how often I should have to give her water. She is now seven months old.

2. It is very hot now. Do I have to take any special prevention?

Thanks.

Dear Pallavi,

The water requirement for children is gauged by body weight.

For example, in the first 10-kilograms, they need 100 ml/kg/day, meaning a seven-kilogram baby needs at least 700 ml of water supplement such as milk, juice or water.

For the hot weather, she may need between 3 percent and 5 percent more. Say, 30-50 ml/kg/day more, so the total may be around 1,000-1,200 ml per day.

During the dry season give your baby more drink as she requires, avoid sunburn or too much sun. The other way to see if your baby has been getting enough fluid is by checking its urine. The baby should urinate at least once every six hours and the color should be light yellow or clear.

Dear Dr. Donya,

I am Irum. I've written to you once before and I got pretty good advice from you, which really worked.

Now I've another problem. I have all these blackheads on my face and there are quite a lot. I've got pimples, but just one or two. I'm not really worried about my pimples but I do not know what to do about my blackheads. Can you give me a remedy or any medicine that could remove my blackheads?

Thanks.

-- Irum

Dear Irum,

The medication you might want to try is Benzoyl peroxide. Apply it twice daily. I think this will take care of your blackhead problem for good.
