Ba'ath leader visits Hamzah

JAKARTA: The chairman of the Ba'ath Iraqi socialist party paid a courtesy call on Vice President Hamzah Haz on Wednesday to disclose the sufferings of Iraqis in the war on terrorism, which is targeting the country and its surroundings.

During his visit to Indonesia, Comrade Latief Nsaif Jasim will also meet with leaders of political parties in the country to convey the same message.

Jasim claimed that Iraq remained solid despite the international sanctions imposed on the country. He also said his country no longer harbored weapons of mass destruction as the U.S. and its allies suspected.

Later in the day, Jasim and his seven-member entourage held talks with Golkar Party executives. Golkar deputy chairman Theo Sambuaga said the party supported Iraq's demand that the UN lift the 12-year-old embargo imposed on the Arab state. -- JP
