Ba'asyir appeals court decision

JAKARTA: Lawyers representing terror suspect Abu Bakar Ba'asyir filed an appeal with the Supreme Court on Monday contesting the South Jakarta District Court's decision that Ba'asyir's arrest was legal.

Achmad Michdan, one of the lawyers, said his team had asked the Supreme Court to establish a team to look into the decision.

"Our client has been arrested based on the testimony of Omar al-Faruq as preliminary evidence.

"We ask the Court to prioritize the case, considering that it is a major case that has attracted international attention," Achmad said.

The South Jakarta District Court earlier rejected an objection filed by Ba'asyir's lawyers contesting their client's arrest. --JP
