BA cuts flights to Jakarta

JAKARTA (JP): British Airways announced yesterday that it would cut its weekly flights between Jakarta and London from six to two beginning Oct. 25, 1998, because of a decrease in passenger demand.

The airline's country manager for Indonesia Clair Hatton announced that it would work with Qantas and other airlines to fly passengers via Singapore when there was no connection through Jakarta.

Hatton said the airline would increase services to Jakarta as soon as passenger demand increased.

"British Airways will operate the current six weekly flights until Oct. 25, 1998 despite lower than forecasted ticket sales. However, we have no other options but to reduce capacity after Oct. 25 until market condition improves," she said.

Passengers who have flights booked after Oct. 25 should contact British Airways at (021) 5211500 or their travel agents. (rid)
