Award winning flat-screen TVs

LG Electronics has successfully won a number of design awards in North America and Europe for its flat-screen TVs, including plasma TVs and LCD TVs.

Representing LG's innovative technology, the company's 50-inch all-in-one Plasma Display Projector (PDP) (TN-50PY20), with the world's first built-in hard disk, received an iF Design Award at CeBit exhibition recently, and was selected as a superior product by U.S. Popular Mechanics magazine. Its 60-inch model with the same design grabbed an Innovation Award at CES expo held early this year.

The 50-inch PDP has a built-in 160-gigabit hard disk, which can store 13 hours of full high-definition broadcast, or 62 hours of analog broadcasts. The model has two integrated slots that can support nine standard types of memory cards as well as play digital photos and MP3 files.

Another innovative product, the 55-inch Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) TV (55LP10) also won the iF Design Award and Innovation Award at CES 2005.

The 55-inch LCD TV, the world's first commercialized LCD TV range, comes with a built-in set-top box that supports digital broadcast. The model has a built-in picture enhancement chip and CD engine to display high-definition images.

Meanwhile, LG's nine products including the 50-inch HDD- embedded PDP TV and the 55-inch all-in-one LCD TV, received the 2005 Reddot Design Award from the prestigious design institute German Design Zentrum.

Previously, LG received one Reddot award in 2002, nine awards in 2003 and 13 awards in 2004.

The Reddot Design Awards, together with iF Design Awards, are among the most prestigious awards in Europe. Launched in 1995, the Reddot Award goes to products with outstanding design. The award-winning products are able to feature the Red Dot accreditation mark, and are recognized for their design excellence worldwide. -- LG/The Jakarta Post
