Auto repair shops reprimanded

The city authorities have sternly warned over 100 auto repair shops because their reckless operations hinder nearby traffic, mainly passersby.

"We have given stern warning to 104 repair shops as their repair activities were conducted partly on sidewalks of major roads," Herman Tonglo Langi, head of the traffic sub-control of the City Land Transportation and Traffic Control Agency, said here Tuesday. He did not give details on the names and locations of the shops.

He said that the warning was given based on the Governor Instruction No. 277, 1993, regarding orderliness of the operations of auto repair shops in the city.

Herman was quoted by the Antara news agency as saying that his agency will continue launching operations against careless auto repair shops in a bid to help return the function of sidewalks for passersby. (hhr)
