Australia funds Dili drinking water
JAKARTA: The government of Australia formally handed over its funded water supply and sanitation facilities for East Timor people on Friday here.
The embassy said in a statement that the project, begun in 1992, was now officially under the ministry of health.
The project was completed last month in Dili, with works implemented in urban areas of Dili and Suai.
Its objective is to improve the welfare of the people of Dili and Covalima regencies through sustainable improvements to water supply and sanitation facilities, the statement said.
Giving no financial details of the project, the embassy said that it included the improvement of the capacity of local water supplies, and construction and rehabilitation of water sanitation and drainage works to provide the people with a cheap and clean water supply.
