Aussie Navy ships to visit Indonesia

JAKARTA (JP): Three ships of the Royal Australian Navy, HMAS Adelaide, HMAS Brisbane, HMAS Hobart are scheduled to arrive in Jakarta on Friday for a goodwill visit to Indonesia.

HMAS Adelaide is commanded by Captain L.G. Cordner, and HMAS Brisbane and HMAS Hobart are under the command of Commander P.D. Leschen and Commander P.J. Murray, respectively. The Australian Embassy says the ships carry a total crew of 850 sailors.

In Jakarta the commanding officers accompanied by the Australian Naval Attache in Jakarta, Captain David. J. Ramsay, will make courtesy calls on local dignitaries, including mayors and military commanders.

The ships' crew will take part in "friendly games" to be hosted by the Indonesian Navy. They will also have the opportunity to learn more about Indonesia's rich culture and experience some of the natural beauty of the country.

The task group, commanded by Captain Cordner, will arrive in Manado on Sept. 24 to take part in a fleet review for the Festival of the Ocean, taking place in the area. (hhr)
