Attorney generals to meet

JAKARTA (JP): Attorney generals from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) will begin arriving in Jakarta today ahead of their meeting to discuss cooperation in law enforcement within the region, a spokesman for the Indonesian Attorney General's Office said yesterday.

The number one prosecutors in the six ASEAN countries will meet for two days beginning tomorrow. They are expected to sign a cooperation agreement at the ASEAN Secretariat on Tuesday.

The attorney generals taking part are Pengiran Haji Bahrin bin Haji Abas (Brunei), Singgih (Indonesia), Datuk Mochtar Abdullah (Malaysia), Raul I Goco (the Philippines), Chang Sek Keong (Singapore) and Kanit Nanakorn (Thailand).

Deputy attorney general Pham Sy Chien of Vietnam, which will formally join ASEAN later this month, will take part in the meeting as an observer. (03)
