Atmajaya students stage peaceful rally

JAKARTA (JP): Hundreds of students from Atmajaya Catholic
university staged a peaceful rally in front of the House of
Representatives compound, demanding the House issue
recommendations to investigate the shooting of students in three
separate incidents.

The students demanded the House's special commission
investigate the student killings and establish an ad hoc human
rights trial to try those responsible for the student killings at
Trisakti University in 1998 and the Semanggi cloverleaf in 1998
and in 1999.

They urged the commission to stop conducting hearings with
military generals as it would be fruitless and only give time to
the generals to absolve themselves of responsibility.

They also called on the House to urge the government to give
attention to the incidents and demonstrate its responsibility for
the incidents to the families of the victims.
