Atma Jaya holds ball tournament

JAKARTA (JP): Atma Jaya University is staging a national interuniversity baseball and softball tournament at the softball stadium of Pintu Satu Senayan, university spokesman Felix Lengkong said on Friday.

The tournament, which ends on Saturday, was attended by 11 baseball and five softball teams. State Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Mahadi Sinambela opened the tournament last Friday, along with officials of the Indonesian Baseball and Softball Association and Yohanes Temaluru, the university's deputy rector in charge of student affairs.

Baseball teams from the Jakarta-based Perbanas economic institution, Gadjah Mada University in Yogyakarta, Bandung State University and University of Indonesia, all qualified for the semis, which began on Friday.

The winners from each group will meet in Saturday's final for the Atma Jaya University's Rector Cup. (ivy)
