Athletes receive awards from KONI
JAKARTA (JP): The National Sports Council (KONI) conferred sports awards to various parties for their achievements and contribution to sport in Indonesia at a ceremony on Monday evening.
Recipients included athletes, coaches, patrons, referees, families, companies, and institutions.
In the athletes category, 18 athletes received the Satya Karya Bhakti Olah Raga with three degrees: Utama, Madya, and Pratama.
Those who achieved gold medals or any equal world championships received the Utama award while silver and bronze awards were granted to those with lesser achievement.
All medalist winners during the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games received the awards. Tony Gunawan and Candra Wijaya won the gold medal in the men's double while Hendrawan got the silver in the men's single and Tri Kusharjanto and Minarti Timur won the silver in the mixed doubles.
Another silver winner for Indonesia was contributed by weightlifter Lisa Rumbewas. Weighlifting also contributed two bronze medals from Sri Indriyani and Winarni.
Other athletes included chess Grand Master Utut Adianto for his gold medal at the 2000 Chess Olympiad in Istanbul, Turkey, and the Indonesian bridge team winning the world championship title.
The Satya Karya Bina Olah Raga award was given to 11 coaches including Imron Rosidi and Lukman from weightlifting; and Herry and Agus Dwi Santoso from badminton. Among patrons, Saleh Basarah was recognized for his contribution in boxing, Wiranto in bridge, and Djamil Djamal in chess.
KONI also honored six sports organizations for their achievements: the Indonesian Contract Bridge Association (Gabsi), the Indonesian Pencak Silat Association (IPSI), the Indonesian Weightlifting, Powerlifting and Bodybuilding Association (PABBSI), the Badminton Association of Indonesia (PBSI), and the Indonesian Rowing Association (PODSI).
From the private sector, KONI gave recognition to companies such as Bintang Tujuh, Gudang Garam, McDonald's, Pfizer, Samsung, and Telkomsel for their support. (nvn)
