Astra clarifies

Since early January 2002 many of our business partners and
associates have complained regarding frequent telephone calls
made by some people claiming to be the committee in charge of a
joint advertisement for the 45th anniversary of PT Astra
International Tbk., which falls on Feb. 20, 2002.

Apart from coercion, they also use a forged letterhead with
the logo of Astra International.

We have written to them requesting that they immediately
discontinue such shameful acts. For information concerning the
