Astra and Mitra sign $10m deal

JAKARTA (JP): PT Astra Graphia and PT Mitra Global Telekomunikasi Indonesia have signed a US$10.1 million-deal to establish an Integrated Operation Support System project for telecommunication services in Central Java.

Under the project, Astra Graphia will provide a support system for Central Java's telecommunication management network, which will include services such as network traffic management, performance rating and recording and network administration.

Mitra Global was commissioned by state-owned PT Telkom last year to set up 400,000 new telephone lines in Central Java by March 1999. Mitra Global will manage the lines together with an existing 325,000 lines, previously installed by Telkom, until 2010.

Mitra Global is one of five private consortia that won 15-year joint-operation contracts to install approximately 2.2 million telephone lines in Central Java, West Java, Sumatra, Kalimantan and the eastern islands.

It is a consortium jointly owned by the state-owned PT Indosat, PT Widya Duta Infotel, Telstra of Australia, NTT, Itochu and Sumitomo of Japan, and various domestic companies.

According to a statement from Astra Graphia, the planned telecommunication management network project will apply a system from Digital Equipment Corporation.

The system is presently used by more than 30 telephone operators that apply fixed line and wireless systems.

The project will be implemented over a 10-month period using an Alpha Server 4100 processor. (pwn)
